Changes at Charlie’s Ruts

If you have driven by Charlie’s Ruts recently, you may have noticed a couple of additions to the landscape. The National Park sign was recently erected there and matches the other NPS signs in the county which denote the Santa Fe Trail, Indian Mound, Kearny County Museum, etc.

On behalf of Lakin PRIDE, Clif Gilleland asked the KCHS board for permission to place a silhouette at the ruts. PRIDE and the KCHS worked together on a design, and the idea became

a reality in early May when the silhouette was welded into place north of the turnout.

Many thanks to Clif, PRIDE, McKayla Hendrix, Brad Hendrix, Travis Bless, and Bob Price for a job well done!
